We Were Liars Book Review!!

I finished this book yesterday and I just had to share my thoughts on this one because it left me shocked! This book was so carefully written and the plot was so clever that I never expected the end. We Were Liars is a young adult and thriller book by E. Lockhart. It is centered around the perfect Sinclair family and the four Liars: Cadence, Mirren, Johnny, and Gat. Mirren, Johnny, and Cadence are cousins. Gat is an outsider, he isn't part of the family. He is Johnny's mom's husband's (Ed) nephew but goes to all the summer vacations with the Sinclairs because of Ed. Gat isn't like the rest of them because he's Indian while they're white and has a different background than the rest of the family. He isn't rich like they are and that makes him an outsider and gives the rich white Sinclairs a different perspective on life. He has different ideals and morals which Cadence becomes interested in. The book tells the Liars' story from Cadence's point of view which isn't that reliable because she suffered an accident and has amnesia and can't remember one of the summers she spent with her family. What makes the story great is all the gaps in her memory due to the accident and the reader becoming aware of what happened during that summer with her. Her family avoids her when she talks about her accident and nobody wants to tell her what happened. They say she has to remember all by herself and that's what she tries to do during that summer. The story goes back and forwards between the summer of the accident and the summer she's telling the story from. Cadence's bond with her cousins and Gat makes the reader love them and their friendship. It makes us become part of their lives and we feel the bond between them and we get to become part of something. This book also gives us an insight of how much people suffer from mental illnesses and how this affects their entire life. It puts us in Cadences place and we get to understand what it's like for her to have all those gaps in her memory and the anxiety it gives her not remembering a part of her life. It has great themes and things to think and reflect on after finish reading the book like family pressures and morals. The ending has such a plot twist and I promise it will make you cry endlessly. It left me shocked and thinking about it for hours after it. It was the best ending the author could've come up with and it was the cherry on top to make it one of my favorite books. This book is truly a beautiful , powerful book that is absolutely worth reading. I give this book a 10/10 because I loved it and it was absolutely beautiful. I really can't think of anything I don't like about it.

"Do not accept an evil you can change"
"Be a little kinder than you have to"
"If you want to live where people are not afraid of mice, you must give up living in palaces"
