Books I am Looking Forward to Read this Summer

For this week's blog since the summer is only a month away now I thought I would talk about some of the books I want to read after exam season is over. A lot of these I have just found while on Instagram or TikTok and have felt intrigued or someone has recommended them personally. I will be including the rating they received on Goodreads, their genre, a brief synopsis and my Goodreads account.

One of Us is Next by Karen M. McManus

This book is the sequel to One of Us is Lying and I am super excited to read it and see what happens with the characters. It is definitely one of the most anticipated books for me.

Synopsis: It is a year after the action of One of Us Is Lying, and someone has started playing a game of Truth or Dare. But this is no ordinary Truth or Dare. This game is lethal. Choosing the truth may reveal your darkest secrets, accepting the dare could be dangerous, even deadly.

Genre: Fiction, Mystery, Thriller

Rating: 4.03

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

A few months ago this book was super popular on bookstagram and I though I would give it a try since I've never read a book centered around an LGBTQ couple.

Synopsis: A rivalry-turned-romance between the Prince of Wales and the First Son of the United States. Alex Claremont-Diaz, whose mother is running for a second term for president, is sharp, passionate, and eager to kick-start his own political career.

Genre: Romance, LGBT

Rating: 4.24

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Someone told me this book is one of the saddest books they've ever read and that alone was enough to convince me to read it. I love a good heartbreaking story so this book is definitely in my want-to-read list.

Synopsis: Two teenage boys, Mateo and Rufus, discover that they only have one day left to live.

Genre: Young adult fiction, Adventure fiction, LGBT literature

Rating: 4.13

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

I saw this book on TikTok and they said it was a funny book with lots of jokes and was a book to enjoy and after all the heartbreak I go through with some books, the change would be great.

Synopsis: Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman are two executive assistants forced together when rival publishing companies merge, making their respective bosses co-CEOs. They sit across from each other every day . . . and they hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. HATE.

Genre: Fiction, Contemporary romance

Rating: 4.12

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

A cute little beach read I found and this is also one of those books I'll read after a sad story just for a good laugh.

Synopsis: No groom? No Problem. When her fiancé tries to turn their wedding into a publicity stunt, Jenna ditches the nuptials—and the groom she shouldn’t have been with in the first place—and skips straight to the honeymoon.

Genre: Humor, Contemporary romance

Rating: 3.98

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Goodreads recommended this book to me right after I read One of Us is Lying and said it was for lovers of Karen McManus' books and I am pretty interested in the whole murder mystery genre so I thought why not.

Synopsis: Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.

Genre: Fiction, Mystery

Rating: 4.34

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

This is just one of those books on TikTok everyone was obsessed with and it caught my attention so I'm definitely looking forward to reading it this summer.

Synopsis: A year after her mother divorces to marry a lawyer, Bailey Rydell decides to leave Washington, D.C., to live with her father in California. One of her primary motives for going is to track down Alex, a boy she met online but has never seen in person.

Genre: Young adult fiction

Rating: 4.00

Normal People by Sally Rooney

This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine that loves reading books and then judging the movies based off of them. I trust her judgement completely and she told me this book was a pretty good read and I'm looking forward to also watching the series after.

Synopsis: At school Connell and Marianne pretend not to know each other. He’s popular and well-adjusted, star of the school soccer team while she is lonely, proud, and intensely private. But when Connell comes to pick his mother up from her housekeeping job at Marianne’s house, a strange and indelible connection grows between the two teenagers - one they are determined to conceal.

Genre: Novel, Literary fiction

Rating: 3.86
