Pride and Prejudice is a classical romance from 19th century England. For my last book review, the genre was a historical fiction so for this one I decided to do something completely different. I also consider it to be an inspiring feminist romance which is what made me read it at first. Elizabeth Bennet lives with her family and has the pressure of her mom, dad, and society to find a wealthy man she could marry. She wants to marry for love instead of money so she ignores her parents and rejects men that propose to her. Mr. Darcy is a man with a lot of money and properties with no desire for a wife. He is perceived as arrogant, selfish, and ignorant by Elizabeth because of his inability to socialize. He and Elizabeth don't get on to a great start because she defies him and has no problem speaking back at him even though women were supposed to be submissive and respectful at the time. She is a feminist icon. Elizabeth does not let any man dictate what she does with her life. She also has the incredible ability of insulting anyone in the most respectful manner possible which is pretty impressive to me. Jane Austen's classic romance novel is one of the best I've read in my entire life because it doesn't revolve around a romance only and doesn't romanticize dangerous relationships. It has a strong female protagonist which was rare in the 1800s. I truly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in romance novels with strong female characters. It is important to be patient when reading Pride and Prejudice because some of the words can be confusing and complicated due to the old language that was used in the 19th century. However, it is not that hard and only takes a little bit of time. Also, it is only around 350 pages so it is not that long of a book. I would give this book a 9/10 because it can be complicated to understand at times but it is completely worth it.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of good fortune, must be in want of a wife."
"In vain I have struggled, it will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
